Prototype 2 in perspex
Ok guy here is a prototype this is made in perspex to give you the general jist of the car and how it looks. but this is the flat chassis version but also comes with a top plate for steering camber so you can run it in two diffrent platforms hope you like it. Big thanks to all that have contributed to this Big thanks to me old mucker Gazza both me and gazza have done some road trips over this chassis and the fianl road trip will be thursday to see the first two being produced. Please before anyone makes a comment the real one will be in 2.4mm GRP. I have been in the workshop all day cutting sanding drinking coffee and in for a right bollocking as i did not do my chores set by her indoors.

Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
Sure looks the part ....any pics with one front wheel up in the air to see the amount it moves before the wing hits the floor
Just to give you some idea is one from the past

finaly the wing rear hits the deck

But dont forget this is on 1. something perspex mate so the proper 2.4mm should be more sturdy and not floopy like the perspex one

Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
In teresting pictures, Paul. I like the flowing curves and the rounded nose section. I'm particularly pleased that you have gone for 2.5mm GRP.
Lifting just the front wheel might not give very fair results though. To check if the wings will bottom out and touch the ground during simulated cornering you might get a more realistic result if you lift the chassis in line with its CoG. That will allow the front suspension to work as well as the rear. As you said though you'll only be able to FULLY check it once it is made up out of your GRP and is fully loaded with cells, electrics etc.
Trying the same on my fully built up CE chassis I could lift the front wheel about 20mm before the opposite BACK corner of the chassis hit the table. The sides still had 1mm or so clearance. Perhaps this is why Chris has made the rear end of the CE chassis narrower than the standard alloy one? However, lifting the side of the chassis in line with its CoG I could only lift it about 4mm. At that point the other side was just about to bottom out and the 'inside' front wheel had left the ground by about 2mm. On the track I very rarely get the inside wheel lifting.
Just my thoughts and good luck with it.

Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
Just a few ponts Wynney the nipple point can just be filed mate to get the curve radius you said mate hope this helps you. Now the point of this chassis it it will give you endless scope to do as you wish.from adding your own damper system to correcting the air flow inside the car the list goes on. You can run it as a flat plate chassis to camber top plate..
The car will be fully tested before anyone gets their hands on them and the price will be in everyones scope young and old racers i hate to think how well this chassis may go in the likes of luke westwood karl dransfield gazza james ect.
This chassis will im sure open up a whole new set up and scope lets now wait and and see how it does on the track then judge its pedigree from there. For the last two weeks i have eaten slept dreamed this to fruit with a Gazza.
As for it riding on its wings well lets see not guess work

Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
Scotland Guys are thinking postive about this
Paul
Like I said on the phone I'll present this to the club tomorrow evening at our AGM. The one obvious thing I notice just now, and it could be different in your final version, but the front of the chassis is very pointed, these definately need rounded off to reduce the chance of damage to carpet.
I'll let you know what everyone else thinks on Monday.

Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
I dont see the advantage of having a chassis like that for a mardave. Your gonna want all of your weight as close to the centre of the chassis. By put more weight down the sides isnt going to make the car handle any better.

Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
We are not forcing you. . Just because its wide you both automatically think you have to use it all. . . and thats where every one is going wrong. . PMSL
dont buy it simple

Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
Why would anybody want to spend money on something that will make their car worse. what are the advantages of this chassis?

Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
There is no reason to make the chassis wider. All this will do is increase the likelihood of chassis scrub. If anything the chassis wants to be narrower. All this extra space (which i presume is to be used for mounting electronics on) is not putting the weight where it needs to be. Just saying.
Re: Prototype 2 in perspex
@ shepp
Pmsl why do you THINK YOU have to buy it . . . Why do you THINK it will be worse . . .
Im 51 been racing a long time and have desined Chassis when you were still in nappys
So you think that Mardave was designed by professionals what you mean Adrain Newey PMSL
@ Karl
Simple dont buy it mate
