Scale/Class? Empty Scale/Class?

Post  rich67 Sun Jan 17, 2010 3:42 am

I know most peeps run 1/10th scale cars but are other scales/classes catered for such as 1/18th? My line of thinking is I may convert my RC18 if I can get a body, tyres etc to a drifter for a bit of fun.

Hi Rich, yes there is all sorts of scales you can use for drifting the most common being the 1/10th but there's no reason why you couldn't use 1/18th like the mini-Z that they use in the states.
Converting the rc18 i don't think would be ideal but a tt01 basic makes a perfect first drifter and they don't break the bank either mate have a look about you can pick them up cheap as chips and are good to go with just a tyre change.

Rich,

You might want to take a look at the RC18R that associated do, im sure there could be bits that will pass across and you could use the shells etc..

Other than that, in 1/18th you've also got the HPI Micro RS4 although im pretty sure they have been discontinued now, but there are still plenty of bits available.

I was thinking along the lines of an RC18R as they are a rally/road car. I have loads of bits for an RC18T including alloy wishbones and chassis so may be able to do a trade/swap for some R bits. Will have a look around and see what I can dig up.

In theory I guess you could drift any scale from 1:1 down but the world has settled for 1/10th electric as the international standard for competition and, let's face it, competition is where it's at. Of course, if enough of you have another scale, all the same, you can run a comp for your own spec.

As has been proven, a good drift car doesn't have to be the very latest TC model and be running crazy spec motors either so take a look at your last season's TC and find the 19t spec brushed can and esc you used to use before you went brushless. You can even use a 40mhz receiver since no one else does now!!!

It's really all about setup and driving technique so make the most of your '08/'09 bits box and put a 1/10th example together. When you get good 'n' bitten, you'll spend a fortune on new gear anyway. You know you will!

It's usually the wife/partner who control the brakes. I'm a lost cause... Wendy loves it too, "oh just buy it"!! Now what help is that? Like giving up fags working for Players! Rolling Eyes
