Technical advice needed!
Hi all
I have just finished my runner Astute but I am after a bit of reasurance on the gear box!
I would like to put 13.5 brushless in it!
has anybody used a brushless set up before on something that has just a ball diff and no clutch?????????
also please look up at the diff set up as you can pack it with shims to make it tighter or loose!
This is quite important to me as the gear sets for these are like rockin horse XXXX
Thanks
Si

Re: Technical advice needed!
Hi si I have used a 8.5t brushless in a mardave cobra which didnt have the "TQ" slipper clutch fitted and it worked finbe just make sure the mess is perfect!!!!
As for the diff assembly it looks to use the same odd conical washers and bearinged washers as the f1 car ball diffs. I use these all the time and run crazy power through them and they bear up just fine. I would really follow the instructions to the letter as tamiya are very good as you no doubt know with their literature.
Have you had alook on tamiyta club .com as there is an astute owners group on there I beleive and they would be a good place to ask if your are still in doubt.

Hi tomo
in your f1 car
do you have any slip at all to help with initial pull away!
as I can add shim to either add abit off slip or lock it solid!
bear in mind though locking solid will apply all the start up force straight onto the gears
or nice and loose will wear the balls!
I'm trying to get a feel for the best start as in let it slip for 1/2 feet them max power
or if I can lock it up abit tighter,
How does your f1 run on start up??
Thanks

Re: Technical advice needed!
Whats it say on the Box . . . brushed / brushless etc 7.2 volt (6cell)
Its hard to give info like this Untill we know the facts ?
If its not meant to taks a brushless then due to to the torque then say good bye to the diff in a few weeks

Come on Gazza
how long have you bin in to R.C.
Brushless was'nt even invented (well probs was but not to us)
when this car was made 21 years ago
They used ball diffs before slip clutches came on the scene
and they still use um today, but mostly use planetry type gearing now
This is more a case off the brushless system is going in reguardless!
but how to limit the wear taking place

The Wright brothers first plane

And you want to put the engine off a Jumbo 747 on to it
and you ask what will happen PMSL
Ok a bit over the top I know but you get the idea . . . I would use a 21 turn brushless and 1 cell Lipo to be honest

Hi From reading into this
I think now with ceramic balls you can buy these would be a great improvment deffo less wear
from which is where the problems start with ball diffs

Re: Technical advice needed!
It's not the Balls mate its the plastic gears ?
then the torque going through the drive shafts
dont forget the R&D on these where brushed motors and nicads so be carefull
