Voltage booster
I am converting from brushed to brushless and was looking around for a voltage booster. I have found this on ebay and was wondering if anybody thinks this will do the job.

Are these voltage boosters necessary?

Re: Voltage booster
you need a booster yes, it converts the 3.7v of the lipo to 6v for the servo and radio gear to run on as they wont work on 3.7 v
i have only just changed over an only ran the car once, seems the same sort of speed ect so happy, just need to set it up,
i have the novak one, i have hit a problem with it as you keep the esc tured off and only the booster on, seams strange but its how it works, anyway i now carnt set my esc up as i have soilderd all the wires in so i carnt un plug the booster from the power lol, oh well you have to learn some how

Re: Voltage booster
I have tested my car on 3 cells (3.6v) and the receiver and servo worked fine

Re: Voltage booster
you could get away with it but . ..
Wen motor is under load going down the straight and you want to turn. . . .
Thats when mine failed so a booster was needed
try it and see Daz but be careful at the end of the straight

Re: Voltage booster
Do you think that 1 off ebay would do the trick?

also search 6.6v LiFe batteries

@chequered_flag_racing
Why search for a 6.6v LiFe batteries ???

if you don't want to run a booster then a receiver pack is the way to go according to Tekin's Randy Pike
Boosters can work just fine in most applications. However they can also fail as can anything else electronic.
We still feel that a rx pack is the right answer for most people. Boosters have to draw power from the 1s pack to make their BEC power. Understand that this is the same "supply" power being used by the motor/esc.
Because of this under loads the voltage can and does bounce all over the place. Good bosters can handle this, but others cannot. This bounce is then passed right along to the radio system, servo, etc. This is how you can miss laps with your p/t, have a radio hit or DSM brown out, etc.
The rx packs setups do not do this because they're on a steady supply that the rx pack is providing.
Food for thought.
Re: Voltage booster
oh you mean a rx pack LOL. . . . thought you meant as a race pack

Re: Voltage booster
I've gone to 1s LiPo too since re-building my V12 a few months back. All my 4-cell packs were dead and good quality 1s packs seemed cheaper and easier to get hold of.
I have run a booster very silialr to this one, for about the same price off the same site but from a different seller. Mine gave out 6v and 1.2A max. Be careful of these figures - some servos can be quite thirsty on current, especially any high torque or super-fast ones, and these boosters can be stretched to supply their needs.
I have recently switched to an RC Dynamics one for this very reason. There were a few times when my car glitched, mainly when under high load, and I put this down to current/voltage drops. Since using the RC one there have been no problems, but it was expensive.
My favourite option would be to run a 1s LiPo compatable speedo rather than a booster - one less item to go wrong, less space and less to wire in... As soon as some models are made legal to run in the V12s I'll switch to them

The GTB2 works fine as its 1s LiPo friendly . . . . I run one along with a few others
