Re: How to true tyres
How do you make your own? Before I picked up my 'dave earlier this year the last time I trued a tyre I was fifteen, with a drill, a file and a right telling off by my mum for covering her kitchen in fine foam dust!
Is there a difference between the cheap(ish!) ones from Fastrax and the more expensive ones from,, say, Hudy?

Re: How to true tyres
Just for the dave I wouldn't buy a one, but I am doing because I race 12th pan also. Getting them spot on is a bit more critical.

Re: How to true tyres
As it happens i trued my tires today, used a drill clamped to the kitchen surface.
took the axel out and but it in the drill and put a wheen on.
Used Emery paper, not ssand paper. i find emery paper better cus it dont smoke and the tires come out better.
No need to spend lots of money on gizmos, just use what you got at home

Re: How to true tyres
Hi All
This is the truer I use, bought it off ebay a long time ago. I think this is the same unit that faxtrax sell.
Brilliant piece of equipment though, recommend to anyone. It takes the standard 8mm size arbour, so no problem buying or fitting different arbours to true different size or type wheels.
Although the cutter obviously only cuts along the flat, I use a foam pad with a course sheet of red abrasive taped to it too chamfer the edges.
One thing though, be careful with the dust, it is very messy, so wear a mask and best do outside.
Hope this helps Richie
ooooooooooooo found that body clip

i just spent ages looking were you said the body clip now i can see it wicked thanks for the contribution Rich
Re: How to true tyres
Does the cutter need replacing regularly or is it quite hard wearing? I notice that the one I use at Ardent has a solid metal abrasive head rather than a blade like the Fastrax/Hudy ones. I'm guessing by your comment that this blade type doesn't produce any less dust..?

Re: How to true tyres
OK this has been a little awkward to take, but my blade is a little like a small piece of a course jigsaw blade, I had never needed to change the blade, still seems to cut fine although does labour more with the higher shaw rated tyres like 48-52 shore.
I don't see why I cannot use part of a jig saw blade as a replacement.

Re: How to true tyres
I normally run 46-48 shore on the the front and pinks/pink soft on the rear.
Just square the rears off, take as little off as possible, basically the larger the rear tyre the better. I true the fronts to 48mm diameter which is reasonably small, if using softer fronts I would true to 49mm as these wear a little quicker.
