found a little bit of grip roll but nothing like what I had been expecting

car was good if a tad slow

TOFT esc or go 2s / 17.5?

Try superglue around the outside edge of the foam on the front tyres. This will stiffen the sidewalls and prevent some of the grip roll.

Also check you are not running too much ride height - 4 to 5 mm is about right for a GT car.

TOTF esc would be my advice...
